Ternua, based in Mondragón, Spain, is introducing a range of technical clothing for climbers based on environmentally friendly textiles.

It includes t-shirts made from Recover Blue blends of recycled cotton and recycled polyester, and others using textiles from the Seacycle project, in which plastics are collected from the sea and mixed with other recycled plastics and organic cotton and turned into new yarns.

Redcycle fabric meanwhile results from an initiative led by Ternua in which 12 tons of fishing nets abandoned in the sea were collected. They were then transformed by the brand into a light stretchy textile that has been used to manufacture pants and Bermuda shorts for climbing.

The lightweight, 40-litre Rope On backpack is distinguished by a double central opening with a circular zipper and is also made from 100% recycled textiles. It has a PFC-free water repellent treatment.

Climbers from many mountain federations in Spain now wear Ternua clothing for both training and competitions.
