Lenzing is investing £20 million in the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant at its site in Grimsby, UK, as part of the company’s plans to reduce wastewater emissions by 2022.

Once implemented, the fibre producer will have biological wastewater treatment plants that meet the best available techniques (BAT) quality standard at all of its production sites.

The plant design, which will employ a new technology developed as part of a research project, is fully aligned with the UK regulator and supported by the local authorities.

“This is a huge step forward in delivering overall strategic goals and a milestone in our long-term plan to give the Grimsby site a solid platform for sustainable growth,” said Phil Munson, director of operations at Lyocell Grimsby.

Construction will start this year.

“Lenzing has set itself concrete sustainability targets for the most important challenges in every one of its strategic core areas, and we are pursuing them in a very disciplined fashion,” said Stefan Doboczky, Lenzing Group CEO.
