The Gore-Tex brand has been synonymous with wet weather protection and outdoor performance as a key partner to countless brands for many decades.
Its most recent brand partner, however, is perhaps also one of the most historic.
Henry Poole first established itself when James Poole became one of London’s premier draper/tailors in 1806.
By the time of King Edward VII’s reign, Henry Poole had become the leading outfitter to the aristocracy and heads of state across much of Europe, having dressed the likes of Napoleon, as well as the kings of Denmark and Norway. Demand was so great that Henry Poole had to expand its premises on Savile Row.
“This established Henry himself as one of the founding fathers of Savile Row,” says Simon Cundey, managing director and current owner of the business.
The iconic street remains the number one destination for those in search of the world’s highest-quality traditional gentleman’s clothing.
Having led the way in classic men’s bespoke tailoring, Henry Poole is still prepared to embrace innovation. The outcome of its partnership with Gore-Tex is the new Henry Poole Travel Trench – made-to-order with optional style detailing choices. The coat is produced using Gore-Tex Infinium Windstopper, a technology that provides heightened comfort and protection.
“The Travel Trench also stays true to Henry Poole’s heritage of livery, civil and military tailoring,” Cundey points out. “There are aspects of the tailcoat, with the three panels at the back, and then you also have the boxcloth – a dense, woollen fabric, which we take from livery-wear. The end result takes gentlemen’s tailoring into a bold new contemporary space, while also staying true to the company’s legacy of timeless elegance.”
